About this book

The Strange Cases of Dr. Stanchon, by Josephine Daskam Bacon, lists in its contents, among others, "THE KEY", "THE CHILDREN" and "THE CRYSTAL". The book carries the line "He had a sudden flashing sense of being in a net that was softly tightening." The doctor addresses a woman as "Miss Mary", and she says "When I signed that paper, they fooled me: it was for good", adding "It said six months".

The woman whispers "Underneath, I'm in black", a "whole suit", and says "I have a little bag packed right under this rock". A woman washing her simple cooking pots asks "Which turn for Endover, farmer?", and the farmer explains that "Appleyards ran out when I was a boy, but the name sticks". A speaker recalls that "she stripped them off, mumbling-like to herself" and that "she cried, poor thing, and I with her".
