About this book
The Witch of Atlas is by Percy Bysshe Shelley. A section headed TO MARY concerns her objecting to the following poem, upon the score of its containing no human interest. The verses address Mary and ask whether she condemns them because they tell no story, false or true.
A lady-witch is said to have lived on Atlas' mountain within a cavern, by a secret fountain. The witch's mother was one of the Atlantides. The text describes two rapid wings hanging from smooth shoulders, fit to have borne it to the seventh sphere. The text says a king would dress an ape up in his crown and robes, and seat him on his glorious seat.
