About this book
The Sensitive Plant is a work by Percy Bysshe Shelley, illustrated by Laurence Housman. A list of illustrations names pictures including one called Death in the garden. The opening text says that when Shelley wrote The Sensitive Plant he was drawing very near the end of his poetry. The opening text places The Sensitive Plant among the poems belonging to the days at Pisa, where the Shelleys had gone late in the January of 1820.
The verses describe broad water-lilies that lay tremulously and starry river-buds that glimmered by. Further verses describe sinuous paths of lawn and moss that led through the garden along and across. A verse says the Sensitive Plant was a leafless wreck, while mandrakes, and toadstools, and docks, and darnels rose like the dead from their ruined charnels.
