S. R. Crockett
S. R. Crockett, the publishing name of Samuel Rutherford Crockett, was a Scottish novelist closely associated with Galloway landscapes and communities. Tales of Our Coast is a collaborative collection to which he contributed the opening story, alongside work by Harold Frederic, Gilbert Parker, Arthur Quiller-Couch, and William Clark Russell. The Lilac Sunbonnet is a Galloway love story, and The Dew of Their Youth belongs to his later fiction. The S. R. Crockett Cultural Legacy preserves a broad digital bibliography that shows how rapidly his career expanded after The Stickit Minister appeared in 1893. Crockett had trained for the ministry and served a Free Church congregation before literary work became his main occupation. His regional settings, Scots speech, adventure plots, and attention to local custom helped distinguish a large body of novels, stories, journalism, and writing for younger readers.
