About this book
The Antiquary is by Sir Walter Scott, and the contents list an introduction, an editor’s introduction and chapters under volume headings. The book discusses Gordon, who votes for Strathern, half a mile short of the Kirk of Comrie, a spot at the foot of the Montes Grampii. Monkbarns and Lovel are said to adopt almost the words of Gordon, who agrees with Stukeley in attributing Arthur’s Oon to Agricola.
A character named Dousterswivel asks his good patrons to stop speaking of the matter, while the Baronet speaks of good luck and of a larger venture. A speaker addressing Hector says that in a profession where unbounded trust is necessarily reposed, there is nothing surprising that fools should neglect it in their idleness, and tricksters abuse it in their knavery.
