About this book

The foreword says the story was written by Charles Dickens in 1867 and purports to be written by a child aged eight. The foreword also says the story is the first of four stories entitled Holiday Romance, published originally in a children's magazine in America. The narrator names Nettie Ashford as the narrator's Bride, married in the right-hand closet in the corner of the dancing-school.

The narrator calls Bob Redforth a cousin, and Lieutenant-Colonel Robin Redforth is united to Alice Rainbird. The narrator's Bride is said to be in captivity at Miss Grimmer's. A vow is entered into between the Colonel and the narrator to cut them out on the following Wednesday, when walking two and two.
