About this book
Tony and the Beetles, by Philip K. Dick, carries the line that a ten-year-old boy grows up fast when history catches up with the human race. Tony Rossi yawns and stirs in a sleep-compartment lit by reddish-yellow sunlight through thick quartz windows. The all-system audio signal from Rigel IV, turned up full blast, fills a dining-compartment with static and crackling pops, and the text calls it the war, always the war.
A Pas-udeti woman says she hopes Tony and his friends get to finish the model spaceport, and Tony answers that it is almost done. Joe clenches his fists, and Leah tells him it is not his fault that he is too old, the heart strain being too great. Leah says soothingly that the fleet will take care of them and will hunt every one of them down.
