On a respecté scrupuleusement la ponctuation et l'orthographe de l'original, incluant l'usage des accents et cédilles. On a néanmoins résolu les abréviations par signes conventionnels (de type "cõme" pour "comme") et distingué les graphies i/j et u/v selon l'usage.

Les nombreux titres de section sont la transcription intégrale des notes en marge de l'original. Les débuts de paragraphes indentés correspondent aux alinéas présents dans l'original, ce qui permet de les distinguer des sauts de paragraphes artificiellement causés par l'insertion d'un titre de section dans notre transcription. (Le texte de Meigret ne comporte aucun alinéa, étant constitué d'un long paragraphe par chapitre; seule la seconde partie de Dolet comporte des alinéas.)
