Où jadis le chant bleu des mers et leurs sanglots Se mêlaient au cantique admirable des branches. Je serai seul sur le rivage harmonieux
Et dans la brise
Sur la mer grise
Des vols d’oiseaux seront comme de noirs adieux. Ah ! ce n’est plus le temps fleuri de la jeunesse !
Vous m’étiez chers
Soirs bleus, soirs verts,
Pleins de tendresse,
Vous étiez beaux
Soirs si nouveaux
Où chaque flot chantait un hymne d’allégresse.

« La petite Odyssée », ami, est incomplète, M’a dit mon compagnon, le pur et doux poète. Ce n’est pas tout d’avoir tendrement encensé Le pâle Lys de France et la jeune Circé.
Ce n’est pas tout d’aller dans les cités lointaines Ecouter sans mourir les voix d’or des Sirènes Et d’entrevoir aux feux d’un beau soir obsesseur Le Bel Adolescent et le Divin Danseur.
Tu ne dois plus revoir la tendre Italienne
Qui chassa de ton cœur la chimère ancienne. Elle fut le Lotus qui guérit tout chagrin.
La tempête est passée et l’azur est serein. Il te faut ajouter un chapitre à l’ouvrage
Et le remplir des chants d’un amour noble et grave. Crois-moi, ne reste pas si seul sous le ciel bleu ! Les maisons sans enfants ne plaisent pas à Dieu. Qu’elle soit Antillaise ou qu’elle soit d’Europe, Il faut, dans la maison aux ruches, Pénélope.
